Position Summary
Materials Supervisor is ideal for someone who thrives in a small, fast growing company environment where collaboration, flexibility, and initiative are key. This position oversees the daily operations of all shipping, receiving, and stockroom activities, ensuring materials and products are handled accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. The Materials Supervisor maintains an organized and effective workflow across these areas while driving accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Inventory Control Specialist, Material Handler, and Shipping & Receiving personnel.
  • Oversee daily shipping, receiving, and stockroom operations to ensure all materials and products are processed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Manage all domestic and international shipments, including documentation, packaging, labeling, compliance, and meeting customer and program requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with production and planning to anticipate upcoming shipments and ensure the shipping team is prepared.
  • Maintain and enforce FIFO practices and shipment/material priority processes across shipping and stockroom areas to support correct rotation and scheduling.
  • Ensure all incoming materials are received, transacted, and routed correctly, including documentation, inspection routing, system updates, and material identification.
  • Assess root causes of inventory and material flow issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Schedule daily activities to meet production needs and shipping schedules.
  • Organize the stockroom layout, storage systems, labels, and material flow, ensuring efficient use of space and easy access to inventory.
  • Manage replenishment of packaging materials, stockroom supplies, and organizational equipment such as racks, shelving, and bins.
  • Coordinate daily cycle counts and maintain accuracy of all inventory, shipping, receiving, and material transactions within the ERP system.
  • Identify and resolve material, inventory, receiving, shipping, and supplier issues by collaborating with planning and purchasing.
  • Monitor capacity and workflow across shipping, receiving, and stockroom areas, proactively driving improvements in organization, efficiency, accuracy, and material flow.
  • Provide daily leadership, direction, workload coordination, and performance oversight for shipping & receiving specialists, inventory specialists, and material handlers.
  • Assign and prioritize tasks, ensuring team members understand expectations and complete responsibilities effectively.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management or Business management, in lieu of degree 5+ years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, stockroom, inventory, or materials operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to supervise and develop a diverse warehouse and inventory team.
  • Experience managing domestic and international shipments and related documentation and compliance.
  • Solid understanding of FIFO practices, cycle counting, inventory accuracy, and ERP-driven transactions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage time efficiently in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of supervisory or team lead experience
  • Experience working in the defense industry
  • Knowledge of INFOR Visual
